What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to enhance breast volume, shape, symmetry, and overall body proportion.
Patients may consider breast augmentation to increase naturally small breast volume, restore fullness lost after pregnancy or weight changes, improve asymmetry, or achieve a breast shape that better complements their body.
At SNU Plastic Surgery Clinic, Dr. Yoo Jeong Weon creates an individualized surgical plan based on your anatomy, existing breast tissue, chest width, skin quality, and desired result.
Breast augmentation may be performed using breast implants or fat grafting, depending on the patient's anatomy and goals.
Designed Around Your Body
Every patient begins with a different breast shape, volume, chest width, tissue quality and degree of symmetry. At SNU, Dr. Yoo evaluates these individual characteristics to create a surgical plan designed to enhance your existing proportions rather than follow a one-size-fits-all approach.
Breast augmentation may be performed using breast implants or fat grafting, depending on the patient's anatomy and goals.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT APPROACH FOR YOUR BODY

Breast Implants
Breast implants allow more predictable control over breast volume, projection, and shape.
During your consultation, Dr. Yoo will help determine the appropriate implant dimensions based on your chest width, existing breast tissue, skin elasticity, and desired result.
Best suited for:
Patients seeking a noticeable and predictable increase in breast volume.
Selecting Your Breast Implant
MORE THAN JUST CUP SIZE
Choosing an implant is not simply about selecting a number of cubic centimeters. Dr. Yoo considers several anatomical factors when recommending an implant:
-
Chest Width: The implant should complement the dimensions of your chest.
-
Existing Breast Tissue: Your natural tissue influences implant coverage and the final appearance.
-
Projection: Different implant profiles create different degrees of forward projection.
-
Skin & Tissue Quality: Skin elasticity and soft-tissue thickness influence what implant size can be safely accommodated.
-
Your Desired Result: Whether you prefer a subtle, natural result or greater fullness and projection will be discussed during consultation.
24-Hour Recovery Breast Augmentation at SNU
A PRECISE SURGICAL APPROACH DESIGNED FOR A SMOOTHER RECOVERY
At SNU, breast augmentation is performed using a meticulous surgical technique designed to minimize unnecessary tissue trauma and support a comfortable, efficient recovery.
Our approach focuses not only on the final breast shape, but also on how the implant is placed, how the surgical pocket is created, and how carefully the surrounding tissues are handled.

Dual-Plane Implant Placement
For most patients, Dr. Yoo uses a dual-plane technique, positioning the implant partially beneath the pectoral muscle while allowing the lower portion to sit beneath the breast tissue. This can provide natural implant coverage and contour while allowing the breast to settle naturally over the implant.
For selected patients, complete submuscular placement may be recommended instead. The appropriate technique is determined by your breast tissue, chest anatomy, skin characteristics, and desired result.
Inframammary Incision
The incision is typically placed discreetly within the natural fold underneath the breast.
This approach provides Dr. Yoo with direct visualization and precise access when creating the implant pocket and positioning the implant, while allowing the resulting scar to remain concealed within the breast fold as it heals.
Keller Funnel® Implant Insertion
During implant placement, Dr. Yoo uses the Keller Funnel®, a specialized surgical device that allows the implant to be delivered through the incision with reduced direct handling.
The funnel also helps facilitate controlled implant insertion through a relatively small incision while minimizing unnecessary contact with the surrounding skin.

No Routine Surgical Drains
With careful surgical technique and bleeding control during the operation, routine surgical drains are generally not required for SNU breast augmentation patients. This means patients typically recover without external drainage tubes following surgery.
Designed for Early Recovery
Our 24-hour recovery approach is designed to help patients begin gentle movement and return to light everyday activities relatively quickly after surgery. Recovery is still individual, and strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and upper-body activity remain restricted until Dr. Yoo determines that healing has progressed appropriately.
Mentor Xtra & Motiva Implants
PREMIUM IMPLANT OPTIONS

SNU Plastic Surgery Clinic offers internationally recognized breast implant options including Mentor Xtra and Motiva, depending on availability and the patient's surgical plan.
Each implant has different characteristics related to shape, projection, softness, and dimensions.
During your consultation, Dr. Yoo will explain the differences and recommend an option based on your anatomy rather than selecting an implant based on size alone.
Fat Graft Breast Augmentation
Fat grafting uses your own fat, collected through liposuction from another area of the body, to increase breast volume.
Because only a limited amount of fat can safely survive after transfer, fat grafting is generally best for patients seeking a more subtle increase in breast size.
Best suited for: Patients seeking modest, natural-looking volume enhancement who also have adequate donor fat.
Hybrid Breast Augmentation
In selected patients, breast implants and fat grafting may be combined.
An implant provides the primary volume and projection, while carefully placed fat can help refine contour or improve transitions around the breast.
-
Best suited for: Selected patients who may benefit from both implant volume and additional contour refinement.

Recovery Timeline
What to Expect During Your Healing Process
Day 1
Rest and begin gentle walking. Tightness, pressure, swelling and soreness around the chest are common during the early recovery period.
Day 5
Swelling and discomfort gradually improve. Light daily activities can usually be resumed according to Dr. Yoo's instructions.
Weeks 1–2
Most patients feel considerably more comfortable and gradually return to normal daily activities. Heavy lifting and strenuous upper-body exercise should be avoided until cleared.
Weeks 6–8
Exercise and more strenuous activity can gradually resume after Dr. Yoo's approval.
Final Results:
Breast shape continues to settle as swelling resolves and the surrounding tissues adapt. Final results develop gradually over the following months.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose my implant size?
Implant selection is based on much more than desired cup size. Dr. Yoo evaluates your chest width, existing breast tissue, skin elasticity, proportions and desired projection before recommending suitable implant dimensions.
Which implants do you offer?
SNU Plastic Surgery Clinic offers implant options including Mentor and Motiva. The most appropriate option will depend on your anatomy and desired result.
Will breast implants look natural?
The appearance depends on your existing anatomy, implant dimensions, profile, placement, and desired size. Dr. Yoo will recommend an implant intended to create proportionate results based on your body.
Where will the scar be?
The incision location depends on the surgical technique selected for you. Dr. Yoo will discuss incision placement and expected scarring during your consultation.
Can breast asymmetry be corrected?
Breast augmentation can often improve asymmetry, although natural differences in the chest wall and breast anatomy may remain. Dr. Yoo will assess this during consultation.
Can breast augmentation be combined with a breast lift?
Yes, when appropriate. Patients with significant breast sagging may require a breast lift with or without implants rather than augmentation alone. Dr. Yoo will determine this based on your breast position, skin laxity and desired result.
How long should international patients stay in Korea?
Your recommended stay depends on the procedure and your recovery. Our international patient coordinator can help you plan your consultation, surgery, follow-ups and travel schedule before arriving in Korea.
